Junior Citizens Police Academy
The Miami Gardens Police Department (MGPD) will be conducting its first Junior Citizens Police Academy (JCPA) beginning July 15 through August 9, 2019. It is a 5-day academy designed especially for kids from ages 13 to 18 years old. The JCPA is set up to inform Miami Gardens youth of the different aspects of law enforcement including community policing, criminal investigations, patrol duties, use of force, K-9 duties, SRT demonstration, and less lethal weapons. The JCPA begins at 9:00 a.m. each day and ends at 3 p.m. The course is free, attendance will be limited to 20 youths, lunch will be provided, and we encourage all who want to gain a working knowledge of their police department to attend.
If you would like to attend or have your child attend the next JCPA, please complete an application. Paper applications are available at the Miami Gardens Police Department.
Mission
The mission of the Miami Gardens JCPA is to increase youth awareness and confidence, improve youth relations, and create a better understanding between the youth and the Police Department through education and a fun learning experience.
