Lenders
The Community Development Department collaborates with several local lenders to offer affordable housing opportunities to new Miami Gardens residents. Lenders interested in learning about the Purchase Assistance Program should contact the office at 305-622-8041.
Homebuyer Counseling Agency
HUD sponsors housing counseling agencies throughout the country that can provide advice on services that include, but not limited to homebuyer education, money/debt management, post purchase counseling and predatory lending, defaults, foreclosures, and credit issues. Alliance for Aging (Elder Hotline)
The Alliance for Aging was designated by the State of Florida in 1989 as the Area Agency on Aging for Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The Alliance is a private not-for-profit, agency. A wide range of services are provided to older people through a network of local agencies. Some of the services provided include congregate and home delivered meals, recreation, adult day care, personal care, legal assistance and transportation. Through its service network, the Alliance also provides, support, training, education, counseling and respite for caregivers including grandparents raising grandchildren. Any person age 60 or older is eligible for services from the Alliance for Aging. Caregivers of any age who are caring for an older person may be eligible for services, also. Community Action Agency (CAA)
Miami-Dade Community Action Agency (CAA) is a part of the County's core social service departments. CAA is committed to delivering excellence by providing services that assist low-income individuals and families to gain self-sufficiency and economic independence, through a comprehensive list of programs that address a number of needs. Florida Housing Finance Corporation
Florida Housing Finance Corporation was created by the Florida Legislature more than 25 years ago to help our fellow Floridians obtain safe, decent affordable housing that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Today, Florida Housing continues its mission by increasing affordable housing opportunities and ensuring that its programs are well matched to the needs of those we serve. Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence (HOPE), Inc (Housing Discrimination)
Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence, Inc. (HOPE, Inc.) is a private fair housing, not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to eliminating housing discrimination and promoting fair housing. HOPE's programs are designed to ensure that people are offered the right to select housing of their choice without discrimination based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, marital or familial status, or such other protected classes as may be conferred by federal, state or local laws. Miami-Dade Homeless Trust (Homeless Hotline)
The Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust was created in 1993 by the Board of County Commissioners with several primary functions, including, to administer proceeds of the one-percent food and beverage tax; to implement the local continuum of care plan, and to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners on issues involving homelessness. The Trust is not a direct service provider. Instead, it is responsible for the implementation of policy initiatives developed by the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust Board. Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency
The Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency administers federal subsidies that support more than 10,000 units of public and other assisted housing. Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency also works with builders, developers, lenders and private housing providers to expand affordable housing opportunities in Miami-Dade County. They have a variety of housing programs and services available depending on the client's individual needs and circumstances. The Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) administers Federal and State funding that supports the development of viable urban neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County characterized by decent housing, expansion of economic opportunities and the preservation of historic properties. Legal Services of Greater Miami (LSGMI) is a private non-profit organization that works to address the legal needs of low income residents. LSGMI represent people who have civil legal problems related to housing, education, family, juvenile, employment, immigration, public benefits and other legal areas. CareerSource South Florida
CareerSource South Florida is responsible for initiating state and federally funded workforce development programs in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. They assist employers and job seekers with employment services, labor market information, and provide training for economically disadvantaged adults, youth, dislocated workers, individuals transitioning from welfare to work, and refugees. S.T.E.P.S. in the Right Direction
S.T.E.P.S. in the Right Direction, Inc (S.T.E.P.S. Inc.) helps strengthen the community by delivering health and human services to the elderly, caregivers of the elderly, needy families and children, refugees, immigrants, and individuals with disabilities and any special needs. They also offer caregivers and families high-quality services and support through a variety of programs, such as adult education, family literacy, caregiver support, and workshops. JCS’ 211 Miami
211 Miami, a program of Jewish Community Services of South Florida, Inc. is a confidential helpline that connects people in need to community resources available in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. 211 Miami has an extensive database of over 4,000 programs and resources for social service assistance addressing food insecurity, legal help, homeless shelters, and financial assistance programs. 211 Miami also provides emotional support and crisis counseling to clients in emotional distress, available 24/7 in English, Spanish, and Creole. 211 Miami is an integral part of the crisis centers network that assist with calls for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and is the number one crisis center in the nation answering Spanish Lifeline calls. The Children's Trust
The Children's Trust invests in programs and services that improve the lives of Miami-Dade's children and families by making strategic investments in their futures. Some of the programs funded by the Children's Trust include early care and education, summer and after-school programs, parenting classes, access to insurance providers and health care, and much more. U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD)
City residents can obtain information on all types of housing programs directly from HUD. HUD's website can provide information including purchasing HUD homes, renting, relocation, foreclosures, evictions, homeless, fair housing, consumer information and complaints and much more. SHINE-Department of Elderly Affairs
The SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders) Program provides health insurance information and free, unbiased, and confidential counseling assistance to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers. Workforce Housing Incentive Program (WHIP)
The WHIP is a pilot grant program designed to address housing affordability in Miami-Dade County, The "conversion" component of WHIP will work with landlords, unit owners, and home sellers with properties in Miami-Dade County that provide quality, affordable, and workforce housing to low and middle income households earning up to 140% of the median income (AMI).
