Operations Division

About

The Operations Division is the "uniformed, first-responder" division. The Division includes the Traffic Unit, which consists of the Motors, School Crossing Guards and Red Light sections, Canine Unit, along with the Intergovernmental Section.

The largest section of the Operations Division is the Patrol Unit. Their primary role is to respond to calls, serve the citizens and provide uniformed visible patrol to all of Miami Gardens. These officers are focused on providing a Community Oriented Policing approach and philosophy as they interact with the public at all times.

The Operations Division responds to over 130,000 calls for service annually. Officers conduct preliminary criminal investigations, plan and coordinate public safety at special events, investigate all vehicle crashes, search for missing persons, respond to life-threatening medical calls, and all other emergency and non-emergency calls. The division staffs 4-12 hour shifts; each shift commanded by a Captain. Each Captain is responsible for three squads with each squad supervised by a Sergeant. Officers are assigned to one of three geographic areas, located within the 20 square miles of the City of Miami Gardens. Included in this City of nearly 112, 000 residents are Calder Casino and Race Course, Hard Rock Stadium, Florida Memorial University and St. Thomas University.
