Career Criminal Unit

About

The purpose of the Career Criminal Unit is to address violent crime in the City of Miami Gardens through active partnerships and protracted investigations. The Career Criminal Unit is comprised of Miami Gardens Police Department Task Force Officers (TFO) who are detached to outside entities including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), U.S. Marshals and Crime Stoppers. The ATF addresses gun violence in the City of Miami Gardens. The DEA Diversion Unit investigates the influx of illicit drugs, pill mills as well as doctors and pharmacies committing crimes within the City of Miami Gardens. The purpose of the HIDTA Strike Force Unit is to address money laundering. The purpose of the U.S. Marshals is to take in to custody adult individuals who are wanted for violent/ major crimes. The officer(s) assigned to Crime Stoppers handles all tips that come to our agency from the Miami-Dade Police Crime Stoppers and Gun Bounty Program. This Unit also monitors the activity of criminals whose activity and history designates them as habitual, career violent offenders who require special attention or services to positively impact their presence in our city.

Objective

The objective of the Career Criminal Unit is to reduce the recidivism rate of career offenders in the community and reduce the number of occurrences of violent crimes.
