Hurricane Season Is Here

Stay prepared during hurricane season

Every year between June 1st to November 30th our community becomes vulnerable to hurricanes, heavy rainfall, winds, and potential flooding. Having a plan and being prepared helps you and your family if and when a hurricane threatens South Florida. In addition, COVID-19 variants continue to form and this must be taken into consideration as you develop your family’s hurricane plan. State, local, and individual hurricane preparedness and response plans may need to change as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) learn more about the virus and issue new safety guidelines.

Here are a few items to consider when deciding how best to protect your family and home.

Hurricane Preparedness Must-Haves

  • Develop an evacuation plan.
  • Make copies of important documents and safely store them away.
  • Check your homeowner's insurance coverage.
  • Get a first-aid kit.
  • Secure a battery-operated radio.

Purchase all necessary supplies, e.g. non-perishable foods, prescriptions, water, and other needed items.
