Traffic Section

About

The Traffic Section responds to all traffic crashes, plan and coordinate traffic safety at special events, and conduct traffic education to local secondary schools. The Traffic Section is also in charge of the City’s Red Light Camera operation and School Crossing Guards.

Objective

The Traffic Section’s main goal is traffic safety and education in an effort to save the lives of motorists and pedestrians. The use of visible traffic enforcement can have a positive effect on overall public safety, including the reduction of vehicular crashes, criminal incidents, and other forms of social harm.

Unit Command Staff

Captain Carole Thony

Commander Thony retired from the City of Miami Police Department after 22 years of service and joined the Miami Gardens Police Department on June 8, 2007. She was assigned to the Professional Compliance Unit as a Sergeant and was later transferred to the Homicide Unit January 2012. Commander Thony was promoted to the rank of Captain in April 2014 and served as the Executive Captain of Operations and subsequently as a Platoon Captain. On January 30, 2016, Carole Thony was promoted to the rank of Commander and was assigned to the Operations Division, which is her current assignment.

You can request a supervisor to make contact with you at anytime, anywhere, or respond directly to police headquarters and file a formal complaint with the Professional Compliance Unit.
