Division Commander

Major Audrey Coney-Brown

Major Coney-Brown has 42 years of experience in the law enforcement field. She began her career in 1975 with the City of Miami Police Department. She worked in many facets within the Department. In March 2007, she retired at the rank of Sergeant and was hired on June 7, 2007, with the Miami Gardens Police Department as a Sergeant. She worked diligently and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2013 and rank of Major in 2014. She has supervised and managed various Units and Divisions within the Department, i.e. Background Investigations, Professional Compliance Unit (PCU), Communications, Fleet, Community Relations, School Crossing Guard Program, Chaplain Program, Citizens on Patrol, Investigations Division and the Administrative Support Division. Major Coney-Brown graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude, from F.I.U. with a B.A. Degree in Public Administration. She has attended numerous in-service training courses and training conferences to enhance her education. Major Coney-Brown consistently demonstrates the highest level of professionalism and integrity. She has been a resident of the City of Miami Gardens for over 30 years. She serves her community with distinction and pride. She exemplifies excellent leadership skills. Major Coney-Brown is the first African American female Sergeant, Captain and Major within the Miami Gardens Police Department.

Division Captain

Captain Gerald Machurick

Captain Machurick is veteran of the U.S. Air Force and has over 37 years of experience in law enforcement, retiring from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department September 2007. Since September 2007, Captain Machurick has been employed with the Miami Gardens Police Department. During his law enforcement career, he has served as a K-9 handler and K-9 Unit Sergeant, Marine Patrol Sergeant and a Street Crimes Unit Sergeant. He has also served as a SWAT Team member, Sniper and as a SWAT Team Commander. Captain Machurick is also a certified Motorcycle Officer. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. His areas of certified instructional expertise include Active Shooter, Sudden Custody Death, Hobble Restraint, TASER Master Instructor, K9, Field Force, Use of Force Simulator, RADAR/LASER, EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations), Rapid Response, and with various firearms. Captain Machurick is a member of Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police and the Florida Police Chiefs Association.
