Captain Eduardo Martinez is the Support Services Division Captain for the Miami Gardens Police Department. He oversees the Records, Property and Evidence, I.T., and Communications Units, as well as Facilities and Equipment Management. He was hired by the City in October 2007. Captain Martinez was one of the two initial uniformed shift Captains to service the residents of Miami Gardens on the midnight shift, starting December 16, 2007. In April 2008, Captain Martinez was transferred to the Professional Compliance unit, where he oversaw internal investigations, background investigations, maintained and updated FDLE Certifications, and drafted unit policies and procedures.
Captain Martinez retired from the Miami Police Department in October 2007, after 30 years of honorable and distinguished service. He was promoted through the ranks within the Miami Police Department and served in a variety of assignments which included; Executive Assistant to two Assistant Chiefs in various divisions, Commander of Robbery, Budget, Communications, Property, and Records Units. During 18 years, he conducted homicide investigations and participated in and supervised several high profile cases including officers wounded and killed in the line of duty.
Captain Martinez earned an Associate’s in Science degree from the Miami-Dade Community College, North Campus. He has attended several hundred hours of certification training, seminars, conferences, and training courses regarding leadership, management, police operations, and community policing. He attended SPI (Southern Police Institute – Commander’s Course), Incident Command Structure (ICS) (100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800, and others). He is a trainer and has taught classes of various topics at SEFICJ, Miami PD, and Barry University. He was a Field Training Officer, Sergeant, and Lieutenant.
Raised in Miami, he currently resides in Miramar with his wife Heidy, has five (5) children.
